the scanner

Saturday, January 28th, 2006

while christian took off to zachun to build the frame that will hold the screen, i made another bargain: an older model of the travelscan pro portable scanner arrived today… not yet built in our networked object, it’s a nice gimmick. and it scans an a4 sheet at 75 dpi in 8 seconds.

here’s the scanner placed on a regular DIN A4 sheet…

infrared light galore

Thursday, January 26th, 2006

while other well-known electronic shops sell these infrared LEDs for the price of well over one euro, hitting google with “LEDs bestellen” showed us the way to LUMITRONIX® LED-Technik GmbH, who kindly gave us students 25 percent off their already nice prices, so we were able to order 100 infrared LEDs plus resitors for 19 cent each. what a feeling when the packet arrived yesterday…

wall eat paper

Friday, January 20th, 2006

after figuring out that we need a diffusor in order to be able to rear-project the image on the wall/screen, it is now clear that the scan function cannot be realised by using a high-resolution cam that captures the piece of paper from behind… there were discussions in class about using a scanner. a normal flatbed scanner wont have the same magical effect of leaving an imprint by holding a piece of paper to the wall, so the weapon of choice will be a portable scanner with an automatic document feed. this way, the wall “dematerializes” the flyer or poster or photo and transfers it to the wall. the original is gone, only the virtual clone is existent.
