the second security camera arrived some days ago.
security camera
zoom lens, 0.02 lux sensitivity, 420 TVL resolution… if this isn’t it, then what is?

i guess since i ordered so much surveillance related stuff on ebay lately, i am now on some kind of blacklist. good thing i am not planning on going to the united states.

vvvvoila le patch.

faster than i thought, i accomplished to adapt the old processing tracking sketch to the new input. the “blobs per second” method doesnt work anymore, but it feels fluent. no lag, so far. the communication between processing and vvvv via OSC seems to be stable, thanks to andreas’ quick help with the code.

I’ll get a new security camera soon, then there will be more testing on the prototype itself.

you can download the new patch for vvvv and processing sketch here.

the first official jeff-han-FTIR-touchscreen clone

Saturday, February 11th, 2006

heres the setup:

a wooden frame with 82 IR LEDs powered by an old PC power supply

touchscreen setup 1

a projector, a borrowed panasonic DV cam with 0Lux function with an infrared-pass-filter, a pc running eyesweb and processing
touchscreen setup 2

touchscreen setup 3

and here we go. 2 seconds lag, ugly-as hell calibration, but it WORKS.

thanks for the great idea, jeff han!

prototype

since yesterday, the prototype touchscreen is assembled and equipped with 84 LEDs (for the rest there was no space…)

touchscreen prototype

now that all is set up we had to realise that the webcam a) has poor aperture, so that you either dont see anything and b) if you set the sensitivity up you have a monstrous latency combined with noise. we should have stayed small-scale.

where to get a decent camera till monday?

firepower

over the last few days i was a little bit worried, that the light energy of the LEDs would be insufficient to run the large screen…
but today i attached 13 LEDs to the testing piece of acrylic glass to only one side and was surprised by the brightness…

13LEDs

and even the scattered light at my fingertips was bright enough to be tracked…
