progress in time

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

using litmus paper, a clockwork, valves and a microcontroller, a clock can be made that shows the time relying on both, analog and digital technology. one wouldnt work without the other.

two discs of litmus paper are attached to an analog clockwork, spinning as time goes by. the microcontroller also measures time and places drips of lemon juice on the two discs, changing its color, so that the time becomes readable.

organic decay

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

the first idea:

by utilizing the well-known technique to produce electricity from a lemon with zinc and copper plates, the progress of the lemons’ decay can be read out.

measuring a reference voltage upon plugging the to-be-created device to the lemon, the voltage can be compared to that from time to time. the lemon will slowly dry out and so producing less voltage over time. this “progress” will be displayed using a row of LEDs.

progressbar/lemon

the new semester theme is “neoanalog”. given an analog object and a digital term, something has to be created that in our opinion matches the term “neoanalog”.

i was given a lemon and the word “progress bar”…
