maybe. looks promising. but how to operate it?

after discussion in class, we found it very important to depict the decomposition process. so, instead of abstract squares or circles, we are going to animate single pixels, like in a particle system.

also, the stream will move horizontally, like it passes by your sight.particlefake_2.jpg

DIY doser II

first experiments with a servo controlled by an arduino board showed that the servos are way too slow to enable a precise dosage of sand, at least in the way we used to think we’d set it up (see previous post).

heres the next proposal, using a screw.

doser-screw

still using a servo, but it has to be hacked in order to be able to spin a full 360 degrees.

why again?

we will never be able to pick all the photos from the stream for decomposing to physical pixels, so in order to make the project work, we need a selection method for photos.

and, because we want to keep it simple and understandable, we are going to pick all photos which come tagged with “red”, “green” or “blue”.

flickr color tags

this means: only photos, whose colors are considered important by the photographer are decomposed.

and the modified software shows that it works :)
