the semester has ended some weeks ago, i forgot to post the progress in the last days, so here is how the cross and the station look like:

way of the cross

in the station, there is an arduino board connected to an easyradio transceiver, sending out the station byte every second, in the image, it would be a “two”.

in the cross, the arduino gets the byte and lets the yampp play back the according track. inside the cross, it looks like this:

further documentation will hopefully be online soon.

wireless transmission1

i managed to shorten the range of the easyradio modules by giving the sender no antenna at all and the receiver only a short one. now, the yampp is only activated within a range of 2,5-3 meters.

arduino + yampp + easy radio schematics

here’s how to connect a YAMPP III industrial MP3 Player to an Arduino Board.

yampp III and arduino

and here’s how to get the serial data in via an easy radio module. the arduino just remembers which song has been played and prevents it from being played again. i do it this way, because the “stations” will repeatedly send out the byte for their Audiofile, and the yampp would start to play the song every time it receives the signal.

yampp and arduino

yes. it works. thanks to marion. the Yampp III industrial receives serial Data at a rate of 2400 baud and plays the songs back!!!

Thanks monika for letting me have that baby ;-)

watch a movie (uncut, so low-bandwith viewers will find it a waste of time…)

cross FM?

Monday, July 3rd, 2006

while listening to the stream of read-out news headlines, i came up with another idea:

what if the stations (did i mention that i want to re-introduce real stations that wirelessly trigger the appropriate files?) bear the content themselves? an endless stream of read-out news matching the keywords transmitted by low-power FM transmitters? and the Cross is just a receiver?

radiocross

the stations are then placed along a pilgrims path…

hill

i like the idea. why did i buy a mp3 player that i cant make work?
